  • The beginning band program for the Nixa Band Program begins in 6th grade
  • .There are two intermediate buildings, Main Street School and Inman.  Each
building has classes that meet every other day for 50 minutes, Main Street
classes are held during the regular school day and Inman classes are held after
    school.
  • The instrument selection process works to allow the student and parent a voice in
the selection with the overall balance of the band being the primary consideration.
  • Students are instructed to make three instrument choices from those instruments
that are offered.  From those three choices, the directors will work with the student
to find the most natural selection for them while still maintaining a proper
    instrumentation for the future.
  • Students and parents are strongly encouraged not to begin the instrument
selection process without the directors.   Doing so might cause problems for the
student and parent once the selections actually take place.
  • The instruments that students can select from are flute, clarinet, oboe, trumpet,
french horn, trombone, baritone, and percussion.
  • Instrument rental has become a very effective way for parents to get their child on
quality instruments.  The most important thing you can do to enhance your
students opportunity for success, is to provide them with an instrument that will
work with them at their particular age and is in good working condition at all
times.  When purchasing an instrument, the directors recommend finding one that
can be serviced by qualified technicians in a timely manner.  There are a few
companies out there that provide very cheap instruments, however quality and
service can be lacking.  The directors for the Nixa school district recommend
Palen Music Center for all your instrument needs.

  • If you need to purchase an instrument, Palen Music Center
will be available in the HS commons on Tuesday, September
2nd.  Woodwind players should attend at 6 PM and Brass
players by 7:30.  You can also save yourself some time and order
    on-line!
